Located in a scenic spot near the beach in Albir, Criollo restaurant offers a delightful setting for dining both indoors and outdoors. With the gentle warmth of November evenings, it becomes a charming place to enjoy a meal under the stars or in its cosy interior.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant is warm and inviting, with the chef masterfully preparing dishes in the background, while a variety of authentic drinks are mixed at the bar. This lively environment provides the perfect setting for an enjoyable evening out.
Criollo Restaurant: Fusion cuisine masterfully prepared
Under the leadership of Argentinian owner and head chef Lucio Saldias, diners are invited to participate in a culinary journey that excites the palate with dishes influenced by several Latin American countries.
We began our dining experience with two exceptional starters:
Prawn Carpaccio
This dish featured delicate prawns enhanced with a refreshing basil and regal fruit garnish. The combination created a dish that was both soft and full of flavour.
Tuna Tiradito
A real revelation, this dish combined fresh tuna with ginger, almond, and coriander, resulting in a delightful balance of spice and flavour.
For our main courses, we were treated to two spectacular dishes:
Steak Tenderloin
As an Argentinian speciality, this dish was an absolute must-try. Prepared to perfection, the steak was succulent, with a rich mustard sauce that complemented its flavour beautifully. This may very well be the best steak I’ve tasted this year, showcasing the meat’s exceptional quality and the chef’s skill.
Duck Magret
One of my personal favourites, this dish exceeded all expectations. The duck was incredibly tender and sliced into delightful pieces, served with a luscious red wine sauce and accompanied by sweet potatoes. Each bite was simply wonderful, leaving us savouring every morsel.
Fusion cuisine with the perfect wine pairing at Criollo Restaurant
Complementing Lucio perfectly is his partner, Andrea Alonso, a highly skilled sommelier whose expertise greatly elevated our overall dining experience. As well as selecting the perfect wine, she introduced us to their fabulous signature cocktail, the Colada Criolla Cocktail. This drink was truly awe-inspiring, with its perfect mix of flavours that danced on the palate; a must-try during your visit.
As for the wine, Andrea carefully selected an excellent Albarino wine that paired beautifully with our dishes, highlighting what makes Criollo truly special. It’s not just about superb food; it’s the personalised experience provided by an expert sommelier, which enhances the entire meal.

Lucio and Andrea, together with their dedicated team, have created an environment that feels both welcoming and special, allowing diners to indulge in a menu of wholesome, beautifully prepared cuisine that caters to a variety of tastes.

Without a doubt, I can confidently say that this is the best restaurant in Albir. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s a culinary experience not to be missed.
