Tucked away in the small bustling streets of Alicante, you will find Steki restaurant. Meaning “meeting point” in Greek, Steki is the brainchild of Olivia Papachristou and Fernando Gámez, a Greek maitre and Mexican chef, respectively.
Drawing on their diverse backgrounds and shared passion for hospitality, they went on a journey to create a space where Mexican, Greek, and Mediterranean cuisines converge.
Steki’s invites guests with a warm ambiance, characterized by wood and rusticness. Despite its relatively short time in operation, the restaurant has quickly become a culinary reference in the area and is even recognized on the coveted Michelin Guide.
The menu at Steki is a fusion of Greek and Mexican influences, presenting a blend of delicate and robust flavors. The menu contains an interesting selection of dishes, with highlights such as the mouthwatering souvlaki made with succulent Iberian pork and tzatziki, a refreshing Greek yogurt-based sauce.
Other must-try delicacies include the saffron-infused escabeche mussels, a testament to Fernando’s culinary prowess from his time at La Ereta. The standout dish, however, is the Iberian acorn-fed pork with mole, sweet potato, and sesame, an exquisite fusion of Mexican and Mediterranean elements that leave a lasting impression on the palate.
Olivia and Fernando’s culinary journey has taken them through renowned restaurants like La Taberna del Gourmet and Tapenot, as well as their previous venture at the Mexican restaurant, Pecados y Milagros. Armed with a wealth of experience, they realized their dream of creating a cozy space for no more than 16 guests, offering a concise menu of around 10 dishes that can be adapted with seasonal produce while preserving customer favorites.
